Menounge, Cuito Cuanavale and Mavinga

Untouched nature

Welcome to Cuando and Cubango, that has bin divided in two provinces since 2024, the home of some of the last wilderness areas in Africa, with rosewood . The largest part of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area is situated in Cuando Cubango (Diríco).

The province of Cuando and Cubango, located in the south-east, is rich in nature and history, especially when it comes to Angola’s more recent history.

The region is rich in nature and the southern parts are part of the KAZA project, which connects the neighbouring countries and will become the largest nature reserve in the world.

This transboundary nature and landscape reserve aims to bring the region and especially the elephant population back into harmony with nature.

War history

The Cuando Cubango province in Angola faced conflict during the civil war (1975-2002), causing significant social and economic challenges.

This region was one of the most contested during the civil war and was the scene of one of the most important battles of the decades-long civil war, which took place in Cuito Cuanavale.
Even today, many traces and contemporary witnesses can be found there that make this sad chapter of Angolan history tangible. An authentic piece of Africa that offers a variety of impressions.
